Prime Minister Narendra Modi Speech at Rajya Sabha today 8 February 2017

Speech Summary:
* The fight against corruption and black money is not a political fight. It is not to single out any particular party.
* Corruption has adversely impacted the aspirations of the poor and the middle class.
* Honest people will not be empowered as long as there's no strict action against the corrupt and dishonest.
* We will have to be tough on those who are cheating the system. When we do that, the hands of the poor will be strengthened.
* About 700 Maoists surrendered after demonetisation, which was a first. Day by day, this number is increasing. Shouldn't this make us happy?
* A horizontal divide has emerged in the country. By this, I mean there's a vast difference in the mood of the public and that of politicians.
* For the first time, the government and the people were of the same opinion (during the demonetisation period).
* You (the opposition) quote foreign economists, I can quote 10 of them on the fact that such an action hasn't never been taken before. What India did will be a case study for economists worldwide.
* Black money, terrorism, counterfeit currency had invaded our daily lives. Today, India is working to correct these wrongs that entered our society.
* For almost 35 years, Manmohan Singh ji had a lot of influence on the country's economic policies. Even in the midst of so many scams, he has a squeaky clean image. Only Dr Manmohan has mastered the art of bathing with a raincoat on.
* There was so much said about what is wrong with the nation. Perhaps they (the opposition) were giving a report card of their own track record.
* We need to work towards bringing about an ideological change in the people's mindset. We shouldn't underestimate the strength and potential of our country.
* Attacks on the party I belong to, our government, on me are understandable but why was the RBI dragged into this? Let us keep institutions above politics.
* I want to congratulate the media, they have furthered the message of Swachh Bharat and created so much awareness.
* I was surprised that certain people were making fun of Swachh Bharat mission. Had Gandhi ji been alive, would these people have dared to use the same language in his presence?
